Purple breast is an autosomal dominant trait (dominant for lilac breast and white breast).
When the gouldian finch has on one or on both chromosomes a purple breast factor it has a purple breast. Male and female cannot be split for purple breast.

- Purple breast female: wb+/wb+
- Purple breast split lilac breast male: wb+/wblb
- Purple breast split lilac breast female: wb+/wblb
- Purple breast split white breast male: wb+/wb

Lilac breast

Lilaborst

Lilac breast is an autosomal recessive trait to purple breast but dominant to white breast.
Lilac breast will be visible when on both chromosomes are the lilac beast factor or on one chromesome the lilac breast and one chromosome the white breast factor. When there is on one chromosome the lilac breast factor and on one chromosome the purple breast factor the breast color will be purple (and split for lilac breast).

The formules for lilac breast used in this calculator are:
- Lilac breast male: wblb/wblb
- Lilac breast female: wblb/wblb
- Lilac breast split white breast male: wblb/wb
- Lilac breast split white breast female: wblb/wb

White breast

Witborst

White breast is an autosomal recessive trait for purple breast and lilac breast.
When a gouldian finch has on one or both chromosomes the white breast factor it will have a white breast. When it has only on one chromosome the white breast factor, the color of the breast will not be white. A white breast can never be split for purple breast or lilac breast.
